1) Can anyone do it?

Yes! This class is aimed at beginners who have no previous dance experience, who are just looking to get out of the house, meet new people and start an exciting new way to keep fit. If you have done other forms of dance im certain it will only help you pick things up faster but im sure you wont have done anything like this before!

2) Where is it?

Lessons are currently held at Kingston College (Main Site), Kingston Hall Road, Kingston. Training sessions are the Dance studio in ARENA (next to the college), Click here for a map

3) What time?

Lessons - every Tuesday 8-9pm. Starting on the 19th Feb.

Training - Saturdays 12-2pm. Starting 16th Feb.

4) How much is it?

Lessons - £5 per hour lesson. Paid at the start of the lesson (Sorry Cash Only)

5) What should I wear?

Bring anything you are comfortable in, I generally wear loose fitting tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt, with some comfortable trainers - prepare to work up a sweat!

6) Do I need any other gear?

If you like the class and want to stick with it then it might be worth investing in a pair of wrist, and/or elbow and knee pads. I personally use wrist and knee - its certainly not a pre-requisite though, many people are fine without anything.

7) What is breakdancing?

Breakdancing is an energetic, dynamic and relatively new form of dance that has been around since the 1970's. It consists of 4 predominant components, toprock, downrock (or footwork), power moves and freezes. Toprock is a set of steps performed in a standing position that normally signal the start of a set and is the first and foremost display of an individuals style. Downrock is performed generally with ones hands and feet on the floor but due to the improvised nature of the dance anything goes. These footwork techs generally transition into Power moves that are more athletic and physically demanding, the most famous of them probably being headspins or windmills. The end of a set is usually signaled by a Freeze which is a static pose, these range from the more basic baby and shoulder freezes to hollowbacks.

8) What will I learn?

My classes focus on Top and Downrock but also teach the transition into some of the more basic freezes and power moves. Those who want to learn more and want to come to the training session on the weekends, should feel free to ask me to help them with the more complicated moves as well.

9) What is the format of the class?

The general format would be to start with a warm up and stretch before moving onto the choreography. The set is made up of toprock followed by downrock and then a freeze. Although this is the main format for my classes there will also be classes aimed at teaching you to improvise your top and downrock (to help you dance in the club!) and classes focusing on power moves as well.

10) What music will we dance to?

The music for most of my classes will be Hip Hop and Funk.
